USING MEGADISC 4
`````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````
Welcome to Megadisc. If this is the first time you've used
Megadisc, there are a few things you should know about the way it
operates.
* To do most things all you need to do is use the mouse. To open
an icon, just double-click on it with the left button. All the text
files and graphics are set up to appear this way.
* The text files are "attached" to a utility called XICON (by
Pete Goodeve), and to read through a file, just press the SPACE bar.
When you get to the end of the article, you can exit by either
clicking on the "Close" gadget at the top left, or by pressing CTRL
and C simultaneously. If you want to exit before finishing, you can
do so by doing either of the above twice. To find out more about
XICON look in the Utilities drawer on Megadisc3 - there's a full
manual there.
* The graphics are attached to the DISPLAY utility, a public
domain graphics displayer which also cycles colours in any graphic
which was created with cycling, say in Deluxe Paint. To stop any
cycling, just press the TAB key, and to restart, do the same again;
ie, it toggles. To exit any graphic, click in the top left corner of
the screen with the left mouse button, like other similar utilities.
* To print the Subscription Form automatically, double-click on
the PrintSubForm icon in the SUBS&EXTRAS drawer, having made sure
that your printer is ready to go. Likewise to print out the entire
text contents of the disk, double-click on the PRINTFILES icon in the
SUBS&EXTRAS drawer - but be warned that there are a lot of pages!
If you want to stop the printing, you'll have to reboot (CTRL-A-A).
If you want to print out just a couple of selected articles, you could
use a Directory Utility such as DUIII on Megadisc 2, or you could enter
this in the the CLI:
> cd Megadisc4: (return)
> type DrawerName/Filename to prt: (return)
e.g. > type Articles/DeskTopPub to prt: (return)
* If you find that the text files scroll maniacally and can't
be read, you're probably in 60-column mode. To change to 80-columns
open Preferences, and click on the "80" button, then on "SAVE".
And that's about it. If you've got any problems using the disk,
call us. And if you've got any suggestions for improvements or
contributions, we'd like to hear from you.
